How to use
Pictures and Photographs as Primary Sources (In construction)
Remember that no
all the pictures available in the site are primary sources, some of
them are paintings, drawings, and current photos.
Use the
following Instructions:
What do you see?
1.
Observation:
Describe what exactly what you see in the photo.
- What people
and objects are shown?
- How are they
arranged?
- What is the
physical setting?
- What other
details can you see?
2. Knowledge:
Summarize what you already know about the situation and time period
shown, and the people and objects that appear.
- When...?
- Where...?
- Why...?
- How...?
- who...?
3.
Interpretation:
Say what you conclude from what you see.
- What's going
on in the picture?
- Who are the
people and what are they doing?
- What might be
the function of the objects?
- What can we
conclude about the time period?
4. Analyzing:
- How this event
affect us today?
- How we can
prevent or encourage the repetition of this event in the future?
5. Future
Research:
- What questions
has the photo or picture raised?
- What are some
sources you can use to find answers?
